Blue House: "Desirable to Approve and Promulgate Three Judicial Reform Bills in Accordance with the Constitution"

Lee Orders Immediate Response to Excessive Treatments at Manager-Operated Hospitals
On March 5, the Blue House stated its position regarding the Cabinet's approval of the so-called "Three Judiciary Laws" (the crime of legal distortion, judicial review system, and Supreme Court Justice expansion), saying, "Our stance is that it is desirable to approve and promulgate them in accordance with the procedures set forth in the Constitution."
Yoojung Kang, the Blue House Spokesperson, gave this response during a briefing at Chunchoogwan that afternoon when asked whether President Lee Jaemyung also supports the Three Judiciary Laws. Kang explained, "The government has comprehensively reviewed the contents of these bills and the progress of discussions in the National Assembly," and added, "The bills were passed after due procedures in the National Assembly."
That morning, the government passed amendments to the Criminal Act, the Court Organization Act, and the Constitutional Court Act at an extraordinary Cabinet meeting presided over by President Lee at the Blue House. The Three Judiciary Laws refer to: the amendment to the Court Organization Act (Supreme Court Justice Expansion Law), which increases the number of Supreme Court justices from 14, including the Chief Justice, to 26; the amendment to the Constitutional Court Act (Judicial Review System), which allows finalized Supreme Court rulings to be reviewed by the Constitutional Court; and the amendment to the Criminal Act (crime of legal distortion), which punishes judges and prosecutors who distort the law.
