'The Man Who Lives With the King' Nears 10 Million Viewers... 'Danjong Fever' Spreads to Publishing and Tourism
Historical Book Sales Triple
Cheongnyeongpo Visitors Surge Eightfold
The box office fever for the film "The Man Who Lives with the King" has spread beyond cinemas, reaching the publishing industry and local tourism.
This work, co-produced by SLL label BA Entertainment and the new production company Ondaworks, depicts the final days of dethroned King Danjong Lee Hongwi (played by Park Jihoon) as he interacts with villagers during his exile at Cheongnyeongpo in Yeongwol. As of March 3, the cumulative number of viewers has reached 9,407,833, putting the 10 million mark within close reach.
The emotional impact of the film is now being felt in the publishing market. According to Kyobo Bookstore, sales of historical books and classic novels, such as the "Annals of the Joseon Dynasty," more than doubled by 2.9 times during the month following the film's release. Audience curiosity about Danjong and the Joseon royal family has translated into increased demand for reading.
Local tourism has also been revitalized. Last month, 38,223 visitors traveled to Cheongnyeongpo, Danjong's place of exile in Yeongwol, representing an eightfold increase compared to the same period last year. Jangneung, his tomb, also saw a ninefold jump to 26,578 visitors. Riding the wave of popularity around the "Danjong Road," Yeongwol County is accelerating preparations for regional cultural events such as the Danjong Cultural Festival.
