In particular, the installation piece "Seokgwabulshik," which uses seeds as its main material, is set to encapsulate the artist's long-standing philosophy and sculptural intent.
Kim Dongseok graduated from the Department of Western Painting at Chugye University for the Arts and majored in Art Education at the Graduate School of Education at Dongguk University. He has held 32 solo exhibitions and participated in over 650 curated and group exhibitions, actively contributing to the art scene. Kim's work revolves around fundamental images such as "The Road," "Mother's Land," and "Seed." These motifs serve not merely as representations of nature but as symbols that metaphorically reveal the beginnings and cycles of human existence and the journey of life. Through repetition, accumulation, and variation, forms are densely layered on the canvas, inviting viewers to encounter the meaning of time and life within them.
Art critic Kim Icheon commented, "Kim Dongseok's installation works are characterized by their ability to encapsulate and radiate the vitality of the seed object within the open space of the exhibition hall. The spherical seed forms arranged within the cubic space defined by the interconnected strings evoke, from a philosophical perspective, the traditional Korean cosmological concept of Cheonwonjibang—heaven is round and earth is square. Aesthetically, the harmony of straight and curved lines demonstrates both balance and transformation. This philosophical and aesthetic sculptural quality can be seen as the culmination of Kim's seed object installations."
