During this tour, President Lee further strengthened Korea’s relationship of trust with ASEAN—the Association of Southeast Asian Nations—by holding summits with the leaders of Singapore and the Philippines, both core ASEAN countries. In particular, memoranda of understanding (MOUs) were signed in advanced technology fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), nuclear power, shipbuilding, and defense. Korea and Singapore also agreed to begin negotiations to upgrade their free trade agreement (FTA).
Additionally, at the summits with Singapore and the Philippines, President Lee shared views on the increasingly unstable international situation and reached a consensus on the need for joint efforts to overcome these challenges.
