Expansion of AI Analysis and Payment Data
Enhanced Practical Use for Local Governments and the Industry
Korea Tourism Organization said on the 24th that it has revamped its tourism-focused big data platform, "Korea Tourism Data Lab," and introduced an artificial intelligence (AI)-based commentary service.

View original imageThe core of this revamp is to combine AI technology with new data in order to broaden the scope of analysis and to strengthen practical, field-oriented services that local governments and the tourism industry can use immediately.
The newly introduced AI commentator, "AI See," comprehensively presents estimated causes behind trends, key summaries, and strategic implications by analyzing vast amounts of tourism data. It goes beyond simply providing statistics and instead delivers data in the form of "understandable information." Korea Tourism Organization plans to expand the range of menus to which the service is applied in stages after a trial operation.
The data composition has also become more sophisticated. By adding local currency and simple payment data, the platform now allows for a more detailed understanding of domestic tourists' regional tourism spending flows, the share of spending by nationality and region for foreign tourists, and the distribution of tourism-related business sectors. Mobile communication and credit card data are broken down by gender and age group, making it possible to analyze visitor characteristics and trends in changes in consumption.
The functions of existing services have also been upgraded. For the event and festival analysis service, features for setting comparison periods and analyzing economic ripple effects have been added, enabling systematic comparison of changes in visitor numbers and spending before and after festivals. Through this, the organization aims to support local governments in formulating data-based tourism policies.

View original imageAlong with this, a new global social media analysis service related to K-culture has also been introduced. It allows users to check, on a monthly basis, trends in the volume of mentions by country and by keyword related to Korean Wave experiences of inbound foreign tourists.
