Jeongseon County Speeds Up Construction of "Agricultural Products Startup Processing Center and Network Center"... Aims Squarely at Increasing Farm Income
Jeongseon County Invests 4.76 Billion Won
to Establish a Local Food Startup Hub
Target Completion in the First Half of 2026
Jeongseon County in Gangwon Province announced on the 19th that it will construct an "Agricultural Products Startup Processing Center and Network Center" as a key hub facility for the Rural New Vitalization Plus Project, in order to promote local food startups and increase the added value of local agricultural products.
The establishment of the Agricultural Products Startup Processing Center is being pursued to respond to rising demand for startups in agricultural product processing and to expand the startup, processing, and distribution system utilizing local agricultural products by strengthening functional linkages with the Agricultural Products Integrated Processing Center currently operated by the Agricultural Technology Center.
The Jeongseon Agricultural Products Integrated Processing Center has been in operation since 2015 and currently involves 59 companies and 176 farms. As the popularity of Jeongseon’s clean agricultural products and processed goods has grown, production volume increased by 71% and production value by 29% last year compared to the same period a year earlier.
Accordingly, the lack of available processing facility hours and the need for expanded space have been continuously raised. In response, the county plans to invest a total of 4.76 billion won, including national funding, to build an integrated Agricultural Products Startup Processing Center and Network Center in the area of 451, Nampyeong-ri, Bukpyeong-myeon.
The project broke ground in September last year and is underway with the goal of completion in the first half of 2026. After a three-month pilot operation following completion, full-scale operation is scheduled to begin in the second half of the year.
The center will utilize the existing agricultural machinery storage facility together with a new building, and will be constructed as a two-story facility with a total floor area of 1,859.48 square meters. The first floor will house 52 pieces of processing and production equipment for local agricultural specialties across 27 types, including extraction and concentration equipment, freeze dryers, and roll pouch packaging machines, as well as storage space for raw materials and finished products. The second floor will contain the Network Center and office space where community groups and startup operators can gather to share information and collaborate.
In addition, to ensure smooth operation, the county has completed land acquisition for parking lots and access roads in the area of 452-1, Nampyeong-ri, Bukpyeong-myeon, and plans to improve user convenience.
Through the establishment of this Startup Processing Center and Network Center, the county plans to strengthen linkages with the existing Agricultural Products Integrated Processing Center and to gradually expand product development and market channels utilizing local agricultural products through research and development support, resident participation projects, and startup academy training programs.
