SK Multi-Utility Fully Launches Operation of 300 MW LNG-LPG Combined Heat and Power Plant
Stabilization Completed After 40-Month Construction Period
SK Multi-Utility (SKMU) announced on the 13th that its 300-megawatt (MW) liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Nam-gu, Ulsan has completed its efficiency verification procedures and entered a stable operation phase.
Construction began in July 2022, and after a 40-month construction period, test runs and stabilization, which started at the end of last year, have now been completed.
A combined heat and power plant is a facility that maximizes energy efficiency by using a single fuel source to produce electricity and steam simultaneously. The plant that SK Multi-Utility has now brought into operation has been built on a site of approximately 39,000 square meters and is equipped with one gas turbine, one steam turbine, and one heat recovery steam generator.
The plant can supply 2,412,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity and 1.82 million tons of steam annually. The electricity output is sufficient to power about 670,000 four-person households for one year, and the steam output is enough to reliably support petrochemical processes in the Ulsan Mipo National Industrial Complex.
The electricity and steam produced by the facility are expected to be supplied to existing customers such as SK Chemicals, Toray Advanced Materials, and Korea Energy Terminal (KET), as well as to other companies located in the Ulsan Mipo National Industrial Complex.
SKMU plans to contribute to enhancing production stability and improving cost efficiency for companies in the Ulsan region by ensuring a stable supply of electricity and steam within the industrial complex.

Kim Namgyu, CEO of SKMU, said, "At a time when economic downturns and uncertainties are deepening across industries, reducing power costs such as electricity can be a key factor in improving manufacturing efficiency and cost competitiveness. We will actively leverage the facility's dual-fuel system, and continue strategic fuel management and further enhancement of power generation efficiency to build a sustainable energy ecosystem within the industrial complex."
