He lost two strokes over his first 11 holes, then showed his resilience by reeling off three consecutive birdies on holes 2 through 4. Kim Sunghyun lost his PGA Tour card in 2024 and went down to the Korn Ferry Tour (second tier), but returned to the regular tour this year.
Chris Gotterup of the United States surged to the top of the leaderboard with an 8-under 63. Matt Fitzpatrick of England is eyeing a comeback opportunity in second place, two shots back, at 6-under 65. Nicolai Hojgaard of Denmark is tied for third at 5-under 66, and Daniel Berger of the United States is tied for seventh at 4-under 67.
