Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) announced on the 6th that, in celebration of the Lunar New Year holiday, it will open public parking lots free of charge during the holiday period and temporarily allow stopping and parking in certain no-parking zones, in order to ease parking inconveniences for returning visitors and residents and to promote the use of local commercial districts.

However, the on-street parking lots in Zone 6 (Janghang-dong), which are operated under private consignment, will be opened free of charge only for two days, from February 17 to 18.
To minimize inconvenience to residents during the free opening period, a 24-hour integrated parking call center will be operated. However, as on-site management personnel will not be stationed at all times, drivers need to exercise particular caution against vehicle theft or damage when using the parking lots.
In addition, temporary stopping and parking of up to two hours will also be permitted in certain no-parking zones. This measure will apply to general road sections for five days from February 14 to 18, and will be temporarily allowed for 17 days from February 2 to 18 on roads around the traditional markets of Wondang Market and Ilsan Market, in order to improve accessibility for market visitors.
However, enforcement will remain in place, as before, in the six types of illegal stopping and parking zones that are directly linked to public safety. These zones are: within a 5-meter radius of a fire hydrant; within 5 meters of an intersection corner; within 10 meters of a bus stop; crosswalks; child protection zones in front of elementary school main gates; and sidewalks.
