"Cooperation Among Agencies During Metropolitan Snowfall"... Ministry of the Interior and Safety Launches On-Site Inspections
Oh Byungkwon, Director of the Natural Disaster Division, Inspects Snowfall Preparedness in the Seoul Metropolitan Area
In response to cases of inadequate snow removal between neighboring areas during the heavy snowfall in the Seoul metropolitan area in December last year, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety has initiated on-site inspections.
Oh Byungkwon, Director of the Natural Disaster Division at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, conducted an inspection on January 16 to review the region's preparedness for heavy snowfall. The purpose was to ensure that snow removal cooperation among relevant agencies is being carried out effectively on the ground, so that last year’s issues are not repeated.
Director Oh visited the snow removal forward base in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, to check the system for sharing information among agencies. He also urged for strengthened preparedness to ensure there are no lapses in snow removal operations at boundary sections between neighboring areas and at highway junctions.
He then visited the Northern Road Management Office in Seoul to examine the current status of snow removal material reserves and equipment management. He also emphasized the importance of inspecting hazardous sections, conducting preemptive snow removal, and deploying equipment and personnel in advance to prevent traffic accidents caused by icy roads during commuting hours.

Director Oh stated, "The government will strengthen cooperation among relevant agencies to minimize public inconvenience and damage caused by gaps in snow removal during snowfall." He also requested, "We ask all citizens to actively participate in recommended practices, such as making way for snow removal vehicles and clearing snow in front of your homes and businesses."
