Daegu New Public Officials' Union: "Deputy Heads Must Stop Using Government Vehicles for Commuting"
On December 23, the Daegu City New Public Officials' Union (Chairman Jang Jaehyung) revealed, "For four months, a deputy head of a local government in Daegu, claiming not to have a personal vehicle, forced a government-employed driver to wait with a government vehicle-funded by taxpayers-outside his distant home by 6:30 a.m. on Mondays for his commute, after being dropped off at home on Fridays after work. This amounts to a form of 'commute-related abuse of authority.'
The Daegu City New Public Officials' Union added, "This deputy head stopped using the government vehicle for commuting after the controversy arose," and further commented, "It is regrettable that such a person still holds a high-ranking position in Daegu City."
Union Chairman Jang Jaehyung stated, "The practice of high-ranking officials using government vehicles for commuting is a wrongful custom. It is time for this to end."

In response, the deputy head in question said, "To my knowledge, most of the nine deputy heads in Daegu use government vehicles for commuting. It is true that I used a government vehicle for commuting because my home is very far from the office, but I stopped about two months ago."
