Gyeonggi Province Levies 397.6 Billion Won in Second Installment of 2025 Automobile Tax
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government has levied 397.6 billion won in the second installment of automobile taxes for 2025.
This amount represents an increase of 6.7 billion won (1.7%) compared to the same period last year. The provincial government attributed this rise to a roughly 1.1% increase in the number of registered vehicles in the province, as well as a decrease in the number of early payment declarations for annual automobile tax prepayment.
By city and county, Hwaseong had the largest tax assessment at 36.3 billion won, followed by Suwon (33.8 billion won) and Yongin (32.5 billion won).
The automobile tax is imposed twice a year-on June 1 and December 1-on the registered owner of the vehicle as of those dates.
This second installment of the automobile tax covers the period from July 1 to December 31, 2025.
If a vehicle is newly registered, transferred, scrapped, or deregistered during the tax period, the tax amount is calculated on a pro-rata basis according to the actual period of ownership. Vehicles for which the annual automobile tax was prepaid in January, March, June, or September are excluded from this tax assessment.
The payment deadline is December 31. If payment is made after the deadline, a 3% penalty will be added to the tax amount. Automobile tax can be paid at any financial institution nationwide, as well as through various methods such as Wetax, Internet Giro, virtual accounts, and cash dispensers (CD/ATM).
