This year, about 72,000 new households joined, resulting in new discounts totaling 300 million KRW through the 'first discount benefit' for those who applied for both electronic notification and automatic payment at the same time.
By using electronic notifications, citizens can receive a discount of 1% off each water bill (with a reduction of 200 to 1,000 KRW per household). The city believes that the significant increase in applications for electronic notifications this year is due to the expansion of user convenience information, including discounts for electronic notifications, combined discounts for automatic payments, and the ability to apply and pay through easy payment apps.
In addition, since 2021, water bill notifications can also be received via easy payment apps (Shinhan Card, Toss, KakaoPay, HanaPay), which has strengthened personal information protection and greatly reduced the reliance on paper-based procedures. Electronic notifications allow users to receive their bills 1 to 2 days earlier than paper bills, and there is no risk of loss, making it advantageous for personal information protection.
Seoul City also explained that the expansion of electronic notifications has reduced the use of paper by approximately 2.55 million sheets this year, saving about 500 million KRW in the budget for the production, printing, and delivery of paper bills, and reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by about 9 tons. The city plans to further improve the system so that citizens can more conveniently apply for electronic water bill notifications and automatic payments, as the benefits of the service are increasing not only in reducing household burdens but also in cutting administrative costs and carbon emissions.

Lee Hoeseung, head of the Seoul Arisu Headquarters, said, "The electronic water bill notification service not only eases the financial burden on citizens but also brings about meaningful change by reducing carbon emissions generated during the production and delivery of paper bills. We will continue our efforts to encourage more citizens to participate in electronic notifications, which can bring about significant change through small actions in daily life."
