Mayor Lee Jangwoo of Daejeon: "We Will Create a Better Volunteering Environment Together with Volunteers"
The 20th Daejeon Volunteer Day Ceremony Held for 2025
Yang Inseok, Vice President of the Daejeon Seo-gu Disabled Sports Association, Receives Prime Minister’s Commendation
On December 9, Daejeon City held the 20th Daejeon Volunteer Day ceremony at the city hall’s main auditorium, attended by more than 600 people, including volunteers, under the theme “The Touch of Volunteers, Warm Change.”
The event was attended by Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, Cho Wonhui, Chairperson of the Daejeon City Council, Park Heejo, Mayor of Dong-gu District, Kim Jesun, Mayor of Jung-gu District, Seo Cheolmo, Mayor of Seo-gu District, Jeong Yongrae, Mayor of Yuseong-gu District, Choi Chunggyu, Mayor of Daedeok-gu District, Kim Hyeonho, Director of the Daejeon Volunteer Center, Kim Youngtae, President of the Daejeon Volunteer Association, the heads of the five district volunteer centers, and the presidents of the volunteer councils. They expressed deep respect and gratitude to the volunteers who devoted themselves to service activities throughout the year.
Yang Inseok, Vice President of the Daejeon Metropolitan City Seo-gu Disabled Sports Association, who received the Prime Minister’s Commendation at the 2025 Republic of Korea Volunteer Awards, has led community service efforts such as operating the “Love Meal Truck” a total of 3,701 times over 34 years.
Additionally, Yang Sunhwa, President of the Daesa-dong Volunteer Council, who received the Minister of the Interior and Safety’s Commendation, has served as a role model in the community through various volunteer activities such as sharing side dishes and kimchi and providing coal briquettes for 20 years since 2004.
The Daejeon Volunteer Award was presented to Yoo Kyungyeol of the Geumbit Lifelong Education Volunteer Group, who contributed to promoting reading culture and lifelong learning for 18 years. The top volunteer awards in Daejeon were given to: Jeong Haejo of the Korea Social Welfare Institute in Dong-gu; Kim Eunji of Jachiul Small Library in Jung-gu; Jeon Hyosu of the Tanbang-dong Volunteer Association in Seo-gu; Hong Seongmi of Guam Sanamaste in Yuseong-gu; and Lee Yanghee of the Red Cross Beauty Volunteer Association in Daedeok-gu. In addition, the Mayor’s Commendation was awarded to a total of 68 outstanding volunteers.
Furthermore, awards were given to Lee Youngseon, CEO of Stock Company; Lee Euigyun, President of the Daejeon Sejong Chungnam Branch of the Korea Information and Communication Contractors Association; Hanbat Housing Welfare Social Cooperative; and Ibiga Food Co., Ltd. for their contributions to fostering a culture of giving.
In recognition of their dedication to the success of the 2025 Daejeon Zero Hour Festival, commendations were also presented to Yoo Eunsun, President of the Women’s Association of the Daejeon Chapter of the Saemaul Undong Movement; Lee Myoin, President of the Daejeon Sejong Chapter of the Korean Red Cross Volunteer Association; Lee Miok, Director of the Daejeon Volunteer Association; Han Deokhee, President of the Daejeon Women’s Association of the Korea Freedom Federation; and Lee Eunja, member of the Eungabi Volunteer Group.
Mayor Lee Jangwoo stated, “We will work together with volunteers, who are a reliable force whenever and wherever they are needed in the community, to create a better environment for volunteering.”

Meanwhile, now in its 20th year, the Republic of Korea Volunteer Awards is the most prestigious award in the field of volunteering, presented by the government to individuals who have contributed to helping neighbors and advancing society through volunteer work and donations.
