Kia PV5 Earns Top '5-Star' Rating in European Safety Assessment
Euro NCAP New Car Safety Assessment
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems and Crash Safety Highly Rated
Kia's first electrified purpose-built vehicle (PBV), the PV5, has proven its world-class safety by achieving the highest rating in the European new car safety assessment.
On December 9, Kia announced that the PV5 Cargo model received the top five-star (★★★★★) rating in the commercial van evaluation of Euro NCAP (The European New Car Assessment Programme), the European new car safety assessment program.
Following the EV6 (2022), EV9 (2023), and EV3 (2025), the PV5 Cargo has also earned the highest rating in the commercial van evaluation, making all Kia's passenger and commercial dedicated electric vehicle models that have been assessed by Euro NCAP recipients of the top rating.
The Euro NCAP light commercial vehicle test is a vehicle assessment program that began in 2021. It conducts safety verification tests on light commercial vehicle models sold in Europe, and from this year, results are announced using a one- to five-star rating system.
The evaluation of light commercial vehicles consists of three main categories: driving safety, collision avoidance, and post-collision protection systems. The overall rating is determined based on the comprehensive evaluation results.
Euro NCAP noted that the PV5 Cargo is well equipped with a driver monitoring system and a seat belt reminder system, and that its intelligent speed limit assist function supports safe driving.
Additionally, the organization praised the vehicle's forward collision-avoidance assist system, highlighting the effective combination of collision warning and emergency braking control, which accurately detects not only vehicles ahead but also pedestrians and cyclists, helping to prevent collisions.
The PV5, based on the PBV-exclusive electrification platform 'E-GMP.S', features a front multi-frame structure to enhance crash safety. It also achieves excellent body rigidity and durability by applying ultra-high-strength steel and hot-stamped steel plates, especially around the vehicle's lower body where the high-voltage battery is installed. The model is equipped with seven airbags and various advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to support safe driving.
