Just two weeks after declaring an "AI Grand Transformation," South Chungcheong Province has successfully attracted an additional investment of 2 trillion won for a new AI data center.

Governor Kim Tae-heum's strong leadership has resulted in large-scale investments, positioning South Chungcheong as a key hub for the national transition to AI industries.

On December 4, Governor Kim signed an investment agreement (MOU) for the construction of an AI data center in Dangjin with Osung Hwan, Mayor of Dangjin, Ahn Byung-chul, CEO of GNC Energy, and Jeong Young-hoon, CEO of DC Korea, at the provincial government’s main conference hall.

Under the agreement, GNC Energy will build an AI data center with a total floor area of 72,000 square meters on a 30,000-square-meter site in the Seokmun National Industrial Complex in Dangjin. Together with DC Korea, GNC Energy will form a special purpose company (SPC) and invest a total of 2 trillion won by 2031.

The province expects the construction and operation of the center to create more than 3,500 jobs.

This new investment comes just 16 days after South Chungcheong Province officially declared its "AI Grand Transformation" on November 11, marking a rapid and large-scale follow-up that is establishing the province as a core region reshaping South Korea’s AI and digital industry landscape.

Governor Kim stated, "South Chungcheong has led Korea’s advanced industries such as semiconductors, displays, automobiles, and secondary batteries," adding, "We will also lead the AI era."

GNC Energy holds a 35% share of the domestic emergency power facility market and a 75% share in the data center emergency power facility market, and also has experience in building eco-friendly power facilities based on biogas.

DC Korea is a specialized company with experience in developing and operating data centers, mainly in the Seoul metropolitan area.

The provincial government stated, "This 2 trillion won investment will play a central role not only in revitalizing the local economy but also in strengthening the nation’s digital competitiveness," adding that it plans to further expand investments in AI and digital transformation going forward.
