In an interview published on December 1 (local time) by Vulture, a pop culture publication under New York Magazine, Director Park was asked about his current "comfort show"-content that he finds himself watching repeatedly. He replied, "YouTube videos about various corruption allegations involving former President Yoon."

The term "comfort show" refers to content that people watch repeatedly for comfort or stress relief. It also refers to content that remains enjoyable even after multiple viewings.

New York Magazine is running a feature highlighting 50 influential figures in the arts and culture sector this year, focusing on their picks for "works of the year." Park's interview appeared under the title "What Park Chanwook Watched, Read, and Listened to in 2025."

Director Park is regarded as one of the leading figures in the film industry who has publicly supported the impeachment of former President Yoon following the December 3 Martial Law Incident. On December 7 of last year, just days after the illegal martial law was declared, he joined an emergency statement signed by 8,007 filmmakers, calling for Yoon's removal from office.

Later, in an interview with MBC's investigative program "Straight," Park stated, "Ahead of the impeachment vote, I thought it was necessary to encourage as many People Power Party lawmakers as possible to participate and apply pressure." He also made headlines when it was revealed that on December 14, 2024, the day of the second impeachment vote against former President Yoon, he purchased the entire day's supply of bread from a nearby bakery to support citizens gathered at the Yeouido impeachment rally.

From Films to Books... Park Chanwook's Picks for 'Works of the Year'

Meanwhile, in the same interview, Park named Paul Thomas Anderson's "One Battle After Another" as the most impressive film he saw this year. The story is set in a fictional America under an extremely right-wing government, where a protagonist-formerly part of a radical leftist group-fights once again to rescue his kidnapped daughter.

Park commented, "As someone who attended university in Korea during the 1980s, seeing the life of a failed revolutionary depicted on screen was deeply resonant," and selected the film's lead, Leonardo DiCaprio, as delivering the "best performance of the year."

He also chose the Netflix UK drama "The Boy's Hour" as the best TV series of the year, "Hedda Gabler" as the most memorable play or musical, and Vladimir Nabokov's "Pale Fire" as the book he couldn't put down. The most memorable performance, he said, was pianist Cho Seongjin's recital commemorating the 150th anniversary of Ravel's birth.
