Mokpo National University Holds "Colorful Festival" in Yeongam... Multicultural Community Celebration
Over 500 Local Children, Youth, and Families with Migrant Backgrounds Participate
Programs Include Photo Exhibition, Film Screenings, and World Cuisine Experiences
The Jeonnam Multicultural Convergence Education Project Group at Mokpo National University announced on December 1 that it held the multicultural week event "Colorful Festival" in the front yard of Haemaru at the Yeongam-gun Family Center on November 29 and 30.
This event was organized to raise awareness of the importance of the multicultural community and to promote multicultural acceptance, with more than 500 participants including local children and youth, families with migrant backgrounds, and native residents.

View original imageMain programs included a photo exhibition and essay display by families with migrant backgrounds, a community film screening, hands-on activities, a bilingual speech contest, and a "Golden Bell" quiz event for families with migrant backgrounds. The photos and essays were exhibited from November 28 to 30, leaving a strong impression on visitors.
During the community film screening, three films-"Skin Color = Honey Color," "Chohon," and "Free Chulsu Lee"-were shown. There was also a GV (Guest Visit) and talk concert with actress Son Soyoung and Nam Kiwoong, CEO of Connect Pictures, providing an opportunity to enhance multicultural sensitivity.
The hands-on activities featured world cuisine, cultural arts, and performances. Visitors could taste food from seven countries-Vietnam, the Philippines, Japan, Myanmar, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Korea-and enjoy a variety of programs such as world folk games, traditional costume experiences, and traditional crafts. A Filipino women’s band and a Nepalese traditional instrument performance team also took the stage.
The Yeongam-gun Family Center, Jeonnam Immigration and Foreigners Comprehensive Support Center, Yeongam-gun Saeil Center, and Yeongam Integrated Counseling Support Center also participated, providing counseling and support services for immigrants.
A participating student said, "I learned a lot by experiencing cultures from various countries firsthand," and added, "I want to continue participating in such programs in the future." A parent commented, "It was meaningful to experience diverse cultures with my child," and expressed hope that multicultural events would continue to be held in the region, fostering an atmosphere of understanding and respect for one another.

The Jeonnam Multicultural Convergence Education Project Group at Mokpo National University plans to continue operating cultural, artistic, and educational programs where multicultural families and local residents can grow together, and to spread a culture of coexistence and inclusion throughout the local community.
