Pinpointing Machun, Saenggok, and Jisa Complexes... Busanjin-Hae Economic Free Zone Authority Strengthens Winter Environmental Pollution Control
Winter Fine Dust Air Quality Inspections
Targeting Odor Complaints and Waste Processing Businesses
Busanjin-Hae Economic Free Zone Authority, led by Commissioner Park Seongho, has launched a joint inspection targeting environmental pollution.
The Authority announced on December 1 that it will conduct a public-private joint inspection of businesses emitting environmental pollutants until December 10 as part of its fourth quarter initiative.
This inspection aims to proactively respond to winter fine dust issues and to provide special management for vulnerable areas in the Saenggok and Machun industrial complexes, where odor complaints are concentrated. The Authority intends to strengthen the environmental safety system and reduce inconveniences for local residents.

The public-private joint inspection team, which includes the Pollution Expulsion Committee of Ungdong 1-dong in Jinhae, the Saenggok Waste Countermeasures Committee in Gangseo, and residents of Noksan Village, will carry out guidance, inspections, and monitoring.
The inspections are being conducted sequentially by region. Since November 17, a focused inspection of air, wastewater, and waste sectors has been underway in the Busan area (Saenggok and Jisa districts). Starting in December, the scope will expand to the Jinhae area (Machun and Namyang), with even more rigorous inspections planned.
Key inspection items include: ▲ whether unlicensed emission facilities have been installed or operated, ▲ whether emission and prevention facilities are operating properly, and ▲ whether related documents such as operation logs are being managed appropriately.
Additionally, to verify compliance with emission standards, sampling and pollution testing will be conducted concurrently, and odor collection will be carried out in cooperation with Gangseo District Office and Jinhae District Office. If violations are identified as a result of the inspection, administrative action will be taken immediately according to the severity of the case.
Special inspections are being conducted on metal waste (such as discarded compressors) processing companies within the Saenggok Industrial Complex, thoroughly verifying the appropriateness of the entire waste processing process. Guidance has also been provided to ensure compliance with waste processing standards, including sharing examples of the application of the Waste Management Act by central government agencies.
Commissioner Park Seongho emphasized, "Through these winter inspections, we aim to promote an eco-friendly corporate culture within the free economic zone. We hope companies will take the initiative to regularly inspect their emission facilities and lead the way in creating a pleasant environment."
