Chuncheon City Completes Hydrogen Transportation Complex Base... Poised to Become a Hydrogen Hub Connecting the Seoul Metropolitan and Yeongdong Regions
Full-Scale Operation Begins December 2... Commercial Service Started in July
Integrated Large-Scale Infrastructure for Charging, Maintenance, Inspection, and Operation
Foundation Established for a Hydrogen Logistics Network Connecting the Seoul Metropolitan Area to the Yeongdong Region
Chuncheon City has completed the construction of the 'Hydrogen Transportation Complex Base,' marking a significant step toward becoming a hub city for hydrogen transportation.
Chuncheon City in Gangwon Province (Mayor Yuk Donghan) announced on the 28th that it has recently finished construction of the 'Hydrogen Transportation Complex Base Project' at 848 and 850 Hakkok-ri, Dongnae-myeon, and will hold a completion ceremony on December 2.
This project, a core infrastructure initiative to establish a hydrogen transportation hub in the Gangwon region, was selected in 2020 as part of a Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport public offering. It has been carried out in cooperation with Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province and Gangwon Technopark, with a total project cost of 19.95 billion won.
The 'Hydrogen Transportation Complex Base' is a facility that brings together all the functions necessary for hydrogen vehicle operation in one place. Centered around four 2,000 kg-capacity liquefied hydrogen charging stations capable of fueling up to 100 hydrogen buses and trucks per day, the base also includes maintenance facilities, car wash facilities, a pressure vessel inspection center, expanded parking for cargo trucks, and a multi-purpose management building.
The charging facilities have been in commercial operation since July. In addition to charging, the complex infrastructure includes a management building, maintenance building, inspection building, car wash facilities, and parking lot, enabling a one-stop system for hydrogen vehicles covering charging, management, maintenance, inspection, and operation.
The full-scale operation of the Chuncheon Hydrogen Transportation Complex Base is expected to go beyond simply providing charging infrastructure. It will accelerate the conversion of transport vehicles to hydrogen and serve as a key hub connecting the Seoul metropolitan area, Gangwon, and Yeongdong regions, laying the groundwork for Chuncheon to become a leading city in hydrogen transportation.
Meanwhile, around 100 people are expected to attend the completion ceremony on December 2, including Chuncheon Mayor Yuk Donghan, Chuncheon City Council Chairman Kim Jinho, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs Yeo Junghyup, Won Gyeongha, Director of Planning and Evaluation at the Wonju Regional Environmental Office, provincial and city council members, Gangwon Technopark President Heo Janghyun, and local residents.

Mayor Yuk Donghan stated, "We have continuously worked to expand hydrogen infrastructure, such as establishing hydrogen charging stations in Dongnae-myeon and Samcheon-dong, to improve air quality and achieve carbon neutrality. The newly established Hydrogen Transportation Complex Base is the first case in Korea to include a liquefied hydrogen charging station within a complex base, and it will serve as a model for the future expansion of hydrogen transportation infrastructure."
