Hanam City Hosts Distinguished Lecture: Professor Dongkwi Lee's Practical Psychology on "Ending Procrastination"
Hanam City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Hyunjae), announced that on November 4, it successfully held the "2025 Hanam Distinguished Lecture" at the Geomdan Hall of the Hanam Culture and Arts Center, featuring Dongkwi Lee, a counseling psychologist and professor at Yonsei University.
On this day, Professor Lee delivered a lecture titled "The Secret of Giving Up After Three Days: Why Do I Procrastinate?"
Professor Dongkwi Lee graduated from the Department of Psychology at Seoul National University, served as president of the Korean Counseling Psychological Association, and is currently a professor in the Department of Psychology at Yonsei University. Through books such as "Why Do I Procrastinate?" and "The Four Types of Perfectionists," he has made psychology accessible and practical to the public.
In this lecture, Professor Lee, an expert who has studied procrastination for 20 years, explained the psychological mechanisms behind "giving up after three days" in an engaging and humorous way. He stated, "Delaying tasks is not simply a matter of lacking willpower or failing at time management, but rather a result of emotional regulation to avoid anxiety and fear."
He went on to present five types of procrastination and illustrated the psychological link between perfectionism and procrastination through real-life examples, resonating with the audience. In particular, he emphasized that "change should be approached as an addition, not a replacement," highlighting the importance of consistent small actions over perfect resolutions, which received an enthusiastic response.
During the Q&A session that followed, citizens of various ages freely shared their psychological concerns, creating an open space for communication. Drawing on his extensive research experience, Professor Lee offered specific and practical advice, giving attendees laughter, empathy, and "the courage to change today."
Mayor Lee Hyunjae of Hanam stated, "Our lives can become richer through continuous learning," and added, "We will continue to provide high-quality lifelong learning opportunities so that all citizens can strengthen their capacity for life."
Meanwhile, the Hanam Distinguished Lecture is the city’s flagship lecture program, established under the vision of "a global lifelong learning city for all citizens," inviting leading figures from various fields so that citizens can gain professional knowledge and life wisdom.
