Seongnam City Marks Third Year of "City for Lifelong Learning for Persons with Disabilities" Project... Performance Sharing Event on November 4
Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor: Shin Sang-jin) will hold a performance sharing event in the first-floor lobby of City Hall from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on November 4, marking the third year of promoting the Ministry of Education-designated "City for Lifelong Learning for Persons with Disabilities" project.

View original imageThis event will showcase and celebrate the outcomes of 30 ongoing programs, including essay reading, pottery, touch handbell performance, art, crafts, horticulture, and musicals, with participation from over 500 persons with disabilities.
A special stage will be set up in the City Hall lobby, featuring pre-event performances such as a night bell performance by 10 persons with disabilities from Somang Rehabilitation Center (located in Geumgwang 2-dong, Jungwon-gu) together with 10 life rehabilitation instructors, and a hula dance by the Hauoli Hula Team from Sujin 2-dong Residents' Community Center.
The event will also include an award ceremony honoring two institutions and one individual for their contributions to lifelong learning, as well as presentations on operational case studies from four lifelong education institutions for persons with disabilities.
The presentation topics (institutions) are as follows: △ Sign Language Storytelling (Korea Association of the Deaf, Seongnam Branch) △ Family Experience and Healing for Adults with Brain Lesions (Seohu Day Center) △ Self-Help Group for Guardians of Persons with Disabilities (Support Center for Families of Persons with Disabilities) △ Life Through Theater (Women with Disabilities Sexual Violence Counseling Center, affiliated with Kyungwon Social Welfare Association).
There will also be a session for participants with disabilities and their guardians to share their experiences and impressions from the programs.
Three institutions will present performances by persons with disabilities: essay reading by The Better Sheltered Workshop, touch handbell performance by Seongnam City Hanmaeum Welfare Center, and the musical "Mamma Mia" by Dream On Lifelong Education Center.
Around the event venue, 144 artworks created by learners with disabilities will be on display, including ceramics, woodworking, folk painting, horticulture, and total crafts.
In addition, there will be various food-sharing events such as popcorn, coffee, and cookies, as well as activities like portrait drawing and a balloon art photo zone, with participation from persons with disabilities and institutional representatives.
A city official stated, "This 'Lifelong Learning City Performance Sharing Event' will be an occasion enjoyed together by both persons with and without disabilities."
Seongnam City was designated as a City for Lifelong Learning for Persons with Disabilities on March 10, 2023.

Over the past three years, the city has invested a total of 600 million won, operating 98 lifelong learning programs for persons with disabilities through 38 lifelong education institutions. The cumulative number of participants in these programs has reached 1,509.
