"Korea SDGs 2030 Hwaseong Declaration" to Be Announced
A large-scale national conference aimed at exploring sustainable development strategies for the nation and cities will be held in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province.
On October 28, Hwaseong City announced that it will host the "2025 Korea Sustainable Development Conference" from November 5 to 7 at Jeongjo Hyo Park, Hwaseong Citizen University, and the Seohae Maru area.
Launched in 1999 and now in its 27th year, this event brings together the government, local governments, civic groups, academia, and citizens to discuss policy directions in various fields to achieve Korea's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The event is co-hosted by Gyeonggi Province, Hwaseong City, and the 2025 Korea Sustainable Development Conference Organizing Committee, and organized by the National Sustainable Development Council, the Gyeonggi Sustainable Development Council, and the Hwaseong Sustainable Development Council. The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and the Office for Government Policy Coordination are serving as sponsors.
This year's conference is themed "Innovation in Technology and Inclusion: Charting Korea's Path in Hwaseong."
The city explained that it was selected as this year's host based on its advanced industries such as semiconductors, mobility, and bio, its outstanding natural ecosystem, the establishment of a dedicated artificial intelligence (AI) department, and the promotion of ESG-based administrative innovation-all policies aimed at a sustainable future. Previously, the city also hosted the conference entirely online in 2020, during the spread of COVID-19.
The opening ceremony, to be held on the first day at Jeongjo Hyo Park, will feature the Korea Sustainable Development Contest Awards, the Solar League Awards, the inauguration of the Hwaseong ESG Governance Model, and the Korea SDGs 2030 Hwaseong Declaration. In particular, the Hwaseong ESG Governance Model is drawing attention as a collaborative body involving the public sector, businesses, and citizens, aiming to create a sustainable ecosystem and address Hwaseong's complex challenges.
On the second day, Hwaseong Citizen University will host the autumn academic conference and thematic conferences. The conferences will include a special session called "Urban Solution Spark," which will seek solutions to major issues in Hwaseong such as transportation, the environment, and urban-rural balance.
On the final day, November 7, a "Hwaseong City Tour" field trip for citizens will take place in the Seohae Maru area.
