As a result, the distribution rate of high-efficiency lights has reached 92.2%. This year, the city will invest 1.6 billion won to replace all 2,487 low-efficiency sodium and metal lamps with high-efficiency LED lights.
LED lighting consumes 40% less power than conventional sodium or metal lamps and has a lifespan more than five times longer, reducing maintenance costs by 32%. In addition, improved illuminance and color rendering for object identification help prevent crime and enhance traffic safety.
The city plans to use the reduced operating budget to establish a bidirectional system that proactively detects and controls malfunctions, which previously relied on citizen reports. It will also install smart streetlights that automatically turn on and off and adjust brightness according to the surrounding environment, further reducing power consumption and advancing operational management.
