More than 250 people attended, including Governor Kim Jin-tae, provincial officials, staff from public health centers and medical institutions, pregnant women, and their families.
In particular, an awards ceremony for a photo and letter contest capturing moments of pregnancy and childbirth was held, introducing touching stories from pregnant women and their families and moving the audience. In addition, commendations were presented to individuals who contributed to the improvement of maternal and child health.
Since 2014, Gangwon Province has been the first in the country to implement the Safe Childbirth Infrastructure Construction Project, introducing various policies such as improving medical accessibility in regions vulnerable to childbirth, establishing an emergency maternal transport system, providing information on pregnancy and childbirth, and operating psychological support programs.
Notably, "Puman-Ae," the nation's first emergency maternal safe stay facility, was established for pregnant women in regions vulnerable to childbirth. It provides a safe space where expectant mothers can stay from six weeks before delivery until three days after childbirth. In 2022, the facility expanded from accommodating one household to six households. To date, 111 pregnant women have used "Puman-Ae" to experience safe childbirth.
