Gijang County to Launch Busan's First 'Expanded Influenza Vaccination Program'
Free Vaccinations Now Extended to Adolescents Aged 14-18
and County Residents Aged 50-64
Gijang County (Governor Jeong Jongbok) announced on October 22 that it will launch the "Expanded Influenza Vaccination Support Program" for the first time in Busan starting October 29, to promote public health and prevent infectious diseases.
This program, funded by Gijang County's own budget, expands the scope of free vaccinations. Newly eligible groups now include ▲ adolescents aged 14 to 18 (born between 2007 and 2011) and ▲ county residents aged 50 to 64 (born between 1961 and 1975), who were not previously covered by the national vaccination support program.
Previously, only the following groups were eligible for free vaccinations: ▲ children aged 6 months to 13 years ▲ pregnant women ▲ seniors aged 65 and older ▲ and socially vulnerable individuals aged 14 to 64 (those with severe disabilities, national merit recipients, and recipients of basic livelihood or medical benefits).
As a result, all county residents except those aged 19 to 49 (born between 1976 and 2006) will now be eligible for free vaccinations.
Vaccinations will be available at 64 designated medical institutions within Gijang County until February 28, 2026. However, vaccinations will not be provided at public health centers or sub-centers, and recipients must bring identification and documents verifying their registered address.
Those eligible for the national vaccination support program can receive free vaccinations until April 30, 2026.
Jeong Jongbok, Governor of Gijang County, stated, "Vaccination is the most effective way to reduce influenza infections and complications," and expressed hope that "this expanded support will help all county residents have a healthy winter."
