Lacquered Lunchboxes, Traditional Roof Tiles, Irwolobongdo... 124 Artisan Works Gather at Deoksugung Palace
"National Heritage Artisans Exhibition" to Be Held from the 21st to the 26th
Works by artisans who carry on the tradition of restoration techniques will be gathered at Deoksugung Palace.
The Cultural Heritage Administration announced on the 20th that, together with the National Heritage Artisans Association, it will hold the "National Heritage Artisans Exhibition" at Deokhongjeon Hall in Deoksugung Palace, Seoul, from the 21st to the 26th.
Marking its 20th anniversary this year, the exhibition will showcase 124 works, including pieces created by master artisans in the field of national heritage restoration and works produced by students who have completed the "National Heritage Restoration Artisans Professional Training" program. Under the theme of passing down and expanding traditional restoration techniques, the exhibition will present both the skills and aesthetics of the artisans and the creativity of the new generation.
Visitors can see everyday crafts such as lacquered lunchboxes, gourd containers, and eyeglass cases, as well as reinterpretations of works like "Irwolobongdo" (Sun, Moon, and Five Peaks Screen), "Heungseon Daewongun Yi Ha-eung's Gold-Embroidered Official Robe," and "Yeongsanhoesangdo" (Vulture Peak Assembly Painting). There will also be physical exhibits reflecting on-site restoration techniques, such as traditionally restored roof tiles and flower walls, and models recreating the structure of traditional Ondol heating systems.
