Aviator Sunglasses and Leather Jacket Evoke "Top Gun"
Distinctive Fashion Choices with Symbolic Meaning at Official Events

First Lady Melania Trump, wife of US President Donald Trump, drew attention at the 250th anniversary celebration of the founding of the US Navy by appearing in an outfit reminiscent of the female lead from the movie "Top Gun."

On October 5 (local time), American entertainment media outlet Page Six reported that President Trump and the First Lady visited the US Navy base in Norfolk, Virginia, and boarded the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush. The couple greeted service members and observed a demonstration of naval capabilities.

On this day, Melania Trump wore a white shirt, dark blue jeans, and a leather jacket. She turned up the collar of her shirt, rolled up her sleeves over the jacket, and accessorized with aviator sunglasses and a baseball cap emblazoned with the "USA" logo.

Page Six commented, "Melania Trump's outfit is reminiscent of Charlotte Blackwood (played by Kelly McGillis), Tom Cruise's love interest in the movie 'Top Gun,'" adding, "This military look appears to be a symbolic expression of respect and solidarity with the armed forces."

As a former model, Melania Trump has always attracted attention for her distinctive fashion choices at official events. During her state visit to the United Kingdom last month, she wore the Kensington trench coat by Burberry, a leading British brand, which was interpreted as a diplomatically meaningful choice.

Vanessa Friedman, fashion director of The New York Times, analyzed, "Burberry is a brand that symbolizes the United Kingdom, but it is currently led by an American executive," adding, "Her choice subtly highlights the importance of trade and cooperation."

Meanwhile, President Trump and the First Lady watched various demonstrations on the aircraft carrier deck at the Navy base, including missile launches from destroyers, helicopter drops by Navy SEALs, and takeoffs and landings of F/A-18 fighter jets.

During the event, Melania Trump waved to service members and shouted the Navy's traditional cheer, "Hooyah!"-a distinctive military chant used within the Navy to boost morale or respond.

In her speech, she encouraged the troops, saying, "For generations, US Navy personnel have defended freedom on the seas," and added, "Your courage and dedication are a great inspiration to all Americans."
