Kia PV5 to Operate in Riyadh Tourism Complexes in Saudi Arabia
Launching PV5 Demonstration Project with Local Developer RSG
Kia announced on the 29th that it will launch a demonstration project for its PBV (Purpose-Built Vehicle) PV5 in collaboration with Red Sea Global (RSG), one of the developers of the Saudi Giga Project, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
For the demonstration project, Kia will supply the PV5 passenger model and provide vehicle and technical training. The company aims to expand the adoption of eco-friendly mobility solutions within RSG’s project sites, offering customized mobility solutions optimized for RSG’s tourism industry.
The demonstration project will take place at "The Red Sea," a leading tourist destination in Saudi Arabia, and "Amaala," an eco-friendly wellness tourism complex on the western coast. Various on-site tests will be conducted to provide transportation services within the resort complexes and between the resorts and Red Sea International Airport (RSI).
Based on these efforts, Kia is considering the development of a PV5 cargo model optimized for resort logistics and a customized PV5 conversion model tailored for RSG’s luxury resort operations. The company also plans to evaluate the potential introduction of the large electrified PBV model PV7, scheduled for launch in 2027.
This demonstration project follows the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in March 2024 between Hyundai Motor Group and RSG for the introduction of eco-friendly future mobility solutions.
RSG is one of the five officially declared Saudi Giga Projects under "Saudi Vision 2030," alongside Neom (a futuristic smart city), Qiddiya (an entertainment complex), Roshn (residential development), and Diriyah (heritage site development). RSG aims to create nature-friendly luxury resorts and wellness tourism complexes along the Red Sea and the western coast.
Jung Hoguen, Executive Vice President of Hyundai Motor Group’s Future Strategy Division, stated, "We hope RSG’s eco-friendly luxury smart city will be successfully realized based on Hyundai Motor Group’s technology and solutions. In the mid- to long-term, we will continue to introduce smart city innovation technologies such as autonomous driving and robotics throughout all RSG development areas."
Hans Axel Pedersen, Chief Operating Officer of RSG, said, "Through this demonstration project with Kia, we expect to introduce the most advanced eco-friendly mobility solutions and devise innovative ways to connect the world’s top tourist destinations even more intelligently."
