Passes Private Investment Feasibility Study
Mayor Lee Sangil: "Expecting Enhanced Semiconductor Competitiveness and Improved Logistics Efficiency"
The Yongin region of Gyeonggi Province, where the expansion of rail and road infrastructure has been accelerating due to the establishment of a semiconductor belt, has received another boost in transportation development. The Yongin-Chungju Expressway, a project promoted through private investment, has passed the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's private investment feasibility study, prompting a welcoming response from local governments and residents.

View original imageAccording to Yongin City on September 25, the private investment project for the Yongin-Chungju Expressway, proposed by Lotte Engineering & Construction, has passed the private investment feasibility study commissioned by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
This expressway is planned as a four-lane, 55-kilometer road that branches off from the Sejong-Pocheon Expressway at Sinwon-ri, Pogok-eup, Cheoin-gu, Yongin, and connects to the Pyeongtaek-Jecheon Expressway at Osaeng-ri, Saenggeuk-myeon, Eumseong-gun, North Chungcheong Province. The total project cost is estimated at 2.5617 trillion won.
This road will connect to major expressways, including the Sejong-Pocheon Expressway (Mohyeon Junction), Yeongdong Expressway (Chugae Junction), Jungbu Expressway (Ganam Junction), and Pyeongtaek-Jecheon Expressway (Seochungju Junction). In particular, the city expects that once the road is constructed, it will significantly improve access to the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster General Industrial Complex in Wonsam-myeon, Cheoin-gu, where SK Hynix is investing 122 trillion won to build production lines, as well as strengthen connectivity with SK Hynix's Icheon plant.
Moreover, the city anticipates that this expressway will directly connect the northern and southern areas of Cheoin-gu, reducing travel time between the Mohyeon and Pogok-eup areas and the Wonsam and Baegam-myeon areas by more than 20 minutes compared to current routes.
Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, stated, "This route is expected to effectively connect the existing expressway network with Yongin's semiconductor industrial complex, greatly facilitating the movement of logistics and personnel. It will not only strengthen the competitiveness of the semiconductor industry but also encourage increased corporate investment in Yongin."
Mayor Lee added, "We will work closely with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to ensure that construction of the Yongin-Chungju Expressway can begin as quickly as possible."
