Customers who already use existing services such as Bluelink, Kia Connect, or Genesis Connected Services can control their vehicles directly from the SmartThings app by simply linking their accounts, with no additional steps required. However, this is only available for vehicles equipped with the 'ccNC' and 'ccIC27' infotainment systems.
Within SmartThings, users can monitor their vehicle’s status in real time, including tire pressure, door status, climate control, remaining driving range, window status, and battery level. They can also remotely execute functions such as locking and unlocking doors, starting the engine and climate control, and managing electric vehicle charging.
It is expected that controlling vehicles through a variety of everyday devices will allow cars to become a natural part of daily life.
For example, when leaving for work, activating 'Away Mode' by opening or closing a door equipped with a smart door lock will automatically turn off the lights and appliances at home, start the robot vacuum, and simultaneously start the engine and climate control in the car.
SmartThings is a platform used by hundreds of millions of people worldwide, and it supports the registration of a wide range of smart home devices beyond Samsung Electronics products. This is expected to create a synergistic effect by connecting Hyundai and Kia vehicles with a broader device ecosystem.
This service is part of Hyundai Motor Group's 'Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV)' strategy to further strengthen connectivity between vehicles and mobile devices, and it is expected to lay the foundation for an integrated ecosystem that encompasses both smart homes and smart cars. In line with this, Hyundai and Kia are accelerating service innovation by collaborating with Samsung Electronics to open APIs that allow users to check and control vehicle status.
Hyundai and Kia plan to offer customers a hyper-personalized mobility experience by expanding car-to-home features that allow vehicles to control home appliances, introducing AI-based routine automation, and integrating voice recognition-based controls.
