Learn and Launch a Beauty Shop... Gyeongnam Information University’s "Beauty Startup Program" Produces Solo Entrepreneurs
Real-world Business Launches Achieved Through RISE Hands-on Startup League
During the course, students actually opened their own shops.
Gyeongnam Information University, the most traditional community college brand in Busan, announced on September 22 that its hands-on startup program, the "Beauty Startup Program," operated as part of the Busan Regional Innovation-led University Support System (RISE) project, has resulted in real-world business launches.
This program selected 10 adult learners from among current students of the K-Beauty Health Department and the K-Beauty Skin & Nail Department. It focused on nurturing solo K-Beauty entrepreneurs through practical, field-based startup education, individualized consulting, on-site incubating, and one-on-one mentoring.
Kim Kyungjin, a sophomore in the K-Beauty Health Department, launched her own business, "Beauty Lounge by Yega," in August while participating in the program. She applied what she learned from the education and mentoring to store management and achieved remarkable results.
Kim said, "Starting a business used to be just a vague dream, but thanks to my classes and this program, I was able to open a beauty shop under my own name. I want to grow as a beauty entrepreneur who provides services to local residents and shares experiences with my juniors."
Kim Kyungmi, the lead professor of the Beauty Startup Program, commented, "Students are transforming from simply learning to actually taking on the challenge of starting their own businesses. Already, two students have successfully launched their own ventures and are rapidly growing by applying the skills and knowledge they have acquired."
Lim Junwoo, head of the RISE project group, emphasized, "This case is meaningful because it goes beyond simple education and realizes a startup ecosystem that connects education, practice, consulting, business launch, and sustainable growth. As a representative community college in Busan, Gyeongnam Information University is closely linked to local industries and is achieving tangible startup results."
This "Beauty Startup Program" has been running long-term for over six months, from May this year until February next year. It consists of practical training for prospective entrepreneurs, master classes in the beauty field, startup consulting, business item planning, and franchise model design.
