Daegu Downtown Braces for Traffic Gridlock on September 20 Due to "Dual Rallies"
Simultaneous Queer Festival and Opposition Rallies
95 Police Officers and 44 Vehicles Deployed
Subway Use Strongly Recommended
On September 20, simultaneous queer festival and opposition rallies will be held in the heart of downtown Daegu, making traffic congestion due to these "dual rallies" unavoidable.
The police have expressed concerns about congestion on major arterial roads such as Gukchaebosang-ro and Dalgubeol-daero, and have strongly urged citizens to use public transportation.
◆ Anticipated Expansion of 'Congestion Zones' on Downtown Arterial Roads
According to the Daegu Police Agency, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on September 20, both the Daegu Queer Culture Festival Organizing Committee and opposition groups will hold rallies and parades throughout the Jung-gu area.
With the installation of stages and booths at the event site, congestion is expected to begin in the morning. Once the afternoon parade gets underway, traffic jams are likely to spread not only on Gukchaebosang-ro and Dalgubeol-daero but also to nearby intersections.
◆ Police to Implement Full-Scale Traffic Management
The police will deploy 95 personnel, including traffic officers, sidecar units, and mobile patrol teams, as well as 44 vehicles such as patrol cars and sidecars, focusing on maintaining traffic flow until 8 p.m., when the event concludes and the stage is dismantled.
Directional signs and warning lights will be installed at distant intersections around the event site to guide drivers to detour in advance, and real-time traffic updates will be provided through TBN Traffic Broadcasting.
◆ "Public Transportation Is the Best Option"
Lee Seunghyup of the Daegu Police Agency emphasized, "Severe congestion on major downtown roads such as Gukchaebosang-ro and Dalgubeol-daero is unavoidable," and added, "If you must drive, please follow police hand signals and detour instructions."

This situation is unique, as it does not involve just one rally, but two rallies of opposing nature being held simultaneously. Therefore, not only traffic but also public sentiment and safety must be considered. While traffic congestion is an expected inconvenience, it can be minimized only through the combined efforts of police management and citizen cooperation. In particular, citizens using major downtown arterial roads should keep in mind that 'public transportation is the best choice.'
