Founded in 1954 as the first private university in Daejeon, Mokwon University has been strengthening its interdisciplinary education system to foster talent that will lead the future society. Through education that spans diverse fields such as culture and arts, humanities and social sciences, and science and technology, the university cultivates convergent talents who possess both depth in fundamental academic disciplines and breadth in cutting-edge technologies.
This year, Mokwon University was selected for the "Software-Centered University" project, overseen by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP), and will receive approximately 5.5 billion KRW in government funding over the next six years. Leveraging this opportunity, Mokwon University has established the School of Computer Convergence (with majors in Computer Engineering, AI Immersive Content, and Cybersecurity) to nurture key talent in software (SW) and AI fields, and is launching a practical, industry-linked curriculum. This move comes as advanced fields such as AI, big data, immersive content, cybersecurity, and cloud computing are being highlighted as core areas for national development.
To foster convergent professionals in mental health and welfare, Mokwon University has also launched the Department of Social Welfare and Counseling. Comprising majors in Social Welfare and Counseling Psychology Welfare, this department operates a practical curriculum that enables students to obtain various certifications such as social worker, youth counselor, and art therapy counselor, nurturing professionals with expertise and field competitiveness in welfare and counseling.
In the College of Education, Mokwon University has established the EduTech Convergence Interdisciplinary Major, where students are admitted without a declared major. Through experience and career counseling in Korean Language Education, English Education, Mathematics Education, Music Education, Art Education, and Early Childhood Education, students can choose the department that best fits their aptitude, thereby strengthening multi-competency and multi-disciplinary educational capabilities.
