Busan Education Office to Launch Literacy and Numeracy Diagnostics in Second Half... Customized Learning Support to Begin in Earnest
Joint Research with Pusan National University
Online Lectures and Mentoring Support for Low-Income High School Students Starting Next Year
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Seokjun) is taking steps to improve students' literacy and numeracy skills.
This initiative is based on the assessment that a lack of these competencies is at the root of basic academic underachievement.
Starting in the second half of the year, the Office of Education will conduct research and implement computer-based diagnostic tests (CBT) aimed at strengthening literacy and numeracy. The plan is to use the diagnostic results to assess each student's individual level and to establish a system for managing and supporting their academic growth records.
To this end, a joint research team has been formed with Pusan National University to analyze domestic and international educational trends and to study the introduction of diagnostic tests. The results of these tests will be provided to students and parents as materials to verify learning levels, while teachers will be able to use the data to conduct individual counseling and design customized curricula.
In addition, to address educational blind spots, starting from the 2026 academic year, support will be provided to low-income high school students in the form of online lecture learning assistance, mentoring programs, and tailored consulting for academic advancement and college admissions. Around 10 students per school at general high schools, special-purpose high schools, and autonomous high schools will be eligible for these programs.
