View original imagePinkfong's "Baby Shark," widely known for the catchy "Baby Shark doo doo doo doo~" song, has added another global record by receiving the highest level of certification in the UK music market.
The Pinkfong Company announced on August 4 that "Baby Shark" has been certified 5X Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). This certification is awarded to a single track that has sold more than 3 million units in the UK, combining downloads and streaming. This is the first case not only among Korean entertainment but also among all kids' songs worldwide.
"Baby Shark" sparked a global phenomenon by entering the US Billboard Hot 100 main singles chart at number 32 in 2019 and remaining on the chart for 20 consecutive weeks. In 2020, it received BPI Double Platinum certification (over 1.2 million units), and in the same year, it became the first Korean and kids' song to simultaneously earn a Diamond certification and 11 Multi-Platinum Digital Single certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
In 2022, it surpassed 200 million streams on the UK Official Charts, and in 2023, it achieved 1 billion cumulative streams on Spotify and reached 4.3 million monthly listeners. Last year, it was awarded Gold certification by the French National Syndicate of Phonographic Publishing (SNEP) and ranked number one for the most-streamed music video in the UK.
"Baby Shark" has continued to secure a global, cross-generational audience by consistently releasing expanded versions in various genres such as classical, acoustic, hip-hop, and EDM.
This year, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of "Baby Shark," new content will be released sequentially, including a limited-edition liquid vinyl album and a collaborative music video with the London Symphony Orchestra.
