Daejeon Seo District Council Votes Down "Resolution Urging Opposition to Relocation of Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Busan"... A Humiliating Wound to Chungcheong's Honor and Local Pride
The Value of Balanced National Development Has Been Thoroughly Pushed Aside
On July 18, the "Resolution Urging Opposition to the Relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Busan," which was submitted to the 291st extraordinary session of the Daejeon Seo District Council, was voted down due to opposition from the Democratic Party. In response, on July 21, nine Seo District council members from the People Power Party held a press conference in the lobby on the first floor of the Daejeon City Council, criticizing the decision as "a humiliating and deep wound to the honor of Chungcheong and the pride of local residents."
They went on to say, "Even Democratic Party lawmakers such as Jang Jongtae and Park Beomgye, as well as Democratic Party local councilors, are more loyal to the directives of the central party than to their promises to residents," adding, "The value of balanced national development has been thoroughly pushed aside."
They further intensified their criticism, stating that it is now time for local residents to directly hold those who have turned their backs on the region and betrayed the residents accountable, and to judge them coldly.
They emphasized, "The policy of relocating the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries headquarters and its affiliated agencies to Busan is in direct violation of the government's stated principle of balanced national development," and added, "The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries must remain in Sejong in order to maximize the effectiveness and speed of maritime and fisheries policies through close connections with related ministries such as transportation, industry, land, and agriculture."
