KMI Launches 'Seafood One Meal Practice Project'... Expands Local Seafood Consumption in Cafeteria
Collaboration with Korea Federation of Coastal Fisheries
to Promote Consumption of Domestic Seafood
Korea Maritime Institute (KMI), led by President Cho Jeonghee, has officially launched a cafeteria project to boost the consumption of local seafood.
On July 9, KMI held the first event of the 'KMI Seafood One Meal Practice Project: Lunch Hae(海)' and served boiled Korean moon snails, a domestic seafood, as a lunch menu item in the cafeteria.
This menu was prepared in collaboration with the Korea Federation of Coastal Fisheries (Chairman Kim Haeseong). Recently, the two organizations also signed a memorandum of understanding to promote the development of coastal fisheries.

View original imageThe 'Lunch Hae(海)' project is a hands-on campaign in which public institutions join forces with local fisheries organizations and fishermen to build a sustainable consumption model. The goal is not only to encourage consumption, but also to spread seafood consumption culture through a multifaceted promotional strategy, including the institution's social media, posters, and seafood character merchandise.
Choi Jeongae, a senior administrative officer from the Budget and Management Office who participated in the event, said, "Korean moon snails are a type of seafood that is not easily accessible in daily life, so it was great to taste them fresh in the cafeteria. I was also impressed that the event was prepared in cooperation with local fishermen, and I hope such events will be held more often."
KMI plans to hold three additional project events by the end of this year, reflecting both the 'Seafood of the Month' and employee preference surveys. Through this initiative, the institute also aims to expand the program to related organizations within the marine cluster, take the lead in establishing a public institution-led seafood consumption model, and lay the foundation for regional coexistence.

President Cho Jeonghee emphasized, "This project will serve as an example of public institutions fulfilling their social role and fostering win-win cooperation with the local seafood industry. Based on its achievements, we will make every effort to expand the program throughout the Yeongdo Marine Cluster in Busan, where KMI is located."
