Na Kyungwon Criticizes Democratic Party’s Supreme Court Expansion Bill as “Final Piece of Judicial Control”
"I am deeply sorry for not being chosen by the people"
"The opposition party's duty is to check absolute power and protect the people's lives"
As President Lee Jaemyung begins his term as the 21st president, Na Kyungwon, a member of the People Power Party, stated, "I want to hope for unity, but as soon as tomorrow (the 5th), they say the final piece of judicial control will be completed with the Supreme Court Justice Expansion Act."
On June 4, Na wrote on her Facebook account, "At the end of the election, I desperately ran through markets and alleys, focusing all my efforts on Seoul and the metropolitan area, but I was not chosen by the people. I am deeply sorry."
Regarding the Supreme Court Justice Expansion Act (an amendment to the Court Organization Act) being pushed by the Democratic Party, she criticized, "The newly added justices will be justices of Lee Jaemyung’s Democratic Party, and in short, as the number of justices increases from 14 to 30, the Supreme Court and the judiciary will be reduced to the judiciary of the Democratic Party." She added, "It is the same path Venezuela took in 2004 when it expanded its Supreme Court to 32 justices and took control of the judiciary."
Na continued, "But if we keep blaming each other endlessly over past issues, we will end up helplessly watching their judicial takeover and remain trapped in the frame of being accused of rebellion," and added, "There is even a possibility that their talk of dissolving us as an unconstitutional party could become reality."
