A worker who was struck on the head by a falling object at a construction site commissioned by Korea Gas Corporation has died while receiving hospital treatment, prompting an investigation by the authorities.
According to the Chungcheongnamdo Provincial Police Agency and other sources on May 9, at approximately 7:20 a.m. on May 2, a man in his 50s, identified as A, was working beneath a pile driver (a machine that drives piles into the ground) at the construction site for the new emergency response standby facility at the Dangjin base in Seokmun-myeon, Dangjin-si, Chungcheongnamdo, when he was struck on the head by a falling object. As a result of the accident, A was transported to the hospital and underwent surgery, but died during treatment on May 6.

The police and labor authorities are investigating the construction company and site personnel for possible violations, including occupational negligence resulting in death, the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, and the Industrial Safety and Health Act.
