The Hwasun County Office announced on the 16th that it will exclude the "Alpaca Experience Zone" from the "2025 Hwasun Spring Flower Festival," which is scheduled to be held for 10 days starting from the 18th.
This decision was made because the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in Jeonnam has not subsided and is spreading based on the initially affected area.
Foot-and-mouth disease, which primarily affects cloven-hoofed vertebrates, requires a three-week movement restriction from the date of outbreak for quarantine purposes. Although Hwasun County currently remains a clean area with no reported cases of foot-and-mouth disease on any farms, the county decided on the 16th to completely withdraw the inclusion of alpacas in consideration of the overall image of the festival.
Alpacas, which are loved by children without exception, are classified as pets, and it is known that about 120 alpacas are raised in Hwasun.
