Trump vows to protect US farmers amid targeted tariffs on Chinese agricultural products
U.S. Farmers Face Direct Hit from China’s Retaliatory Tariffs
"If Patriots Hold On, a Great Trade Deal Will Be Made"
U.S. President Donald Trump issued a message urging resilience, stating that he will protect American farmers who are expected to be directly hit by the tariff war with China.
On the 15th (local time), President Trump said on his social networking service (SNS) Truth Social, which he created, "Our farmers are great, but because of that greatness, they are placed on the front lines to face enemies like China whenever trade negotiations or trade wars like this occur."
He added, "The same thing happened during my first term. China treated our farmers brutally, and I told the patriots to hold on. Afterwards, a great trade agreement was made," he claimed.
This statement refers to the U.S.-China Phase One trade agreement during Trump’s first administration, in which China agreed to purchase American goods and services, including U.S. agricultural products.
President Trump said, "Through the agreement with China, I compensated farmers with $28 billion," and added, "It was a great deal for America until Crooked Joe Biden came in and failed to implement it." He continued, "China mostly broke the agreement and only bought part of what they agreed to purchase," and questioned, "Who can blame them when there is zero respect for the corrupt Biden administration?"
He then emphasized, "America will protect our farmers."
Earlier, China imposed targeted tariffs on U.S. agricultural and livestock products in response to the tariff bombs from the Trump administration. This statement is analyzed as an indication that there will be compensation if farmers endure the hardships, amid growing concerns that American farms will suffer significant damage due to Trump’s tariff war.
