Nowon-gu Hosts Astronomical Space Festival Event
'Astronomy and Space Festival' to Be Held at Nowon Astronomy and Space Science Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the 26th
A Variety of Science Experience Programs Including Science Magic, Observatory Viewing, and Science Experiments
Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will hold the 'Astronomy and Space Festival' event on April 26 in celebration of Science Month.
The event will take place at the Nowon Astronomy and Space Science Center near Junggye Station from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Anyone can participate for free, and a variety of programs are prepared, including ▲magic shows ▲observations at the observatory ▲planetarium film screenings ▲experience booths, and more.
First, the ▲Science Magic Show, which combines science and magic, will be held three times. Each session can accommodate 30 viewers. Reservations can be made on a first-come, first-served basis through the Nowon Astronomy and Space Science Center website from 10 a.m. on April 16 to 11:50 p.m. on April 24. Up to five people can be reserved per person, and children and adolescents aged 6 and older (born before 2020) can participate.
At the observatory located on the 5th floor of the Astronomy and Space Science Center, visitors can directly observe sunspots and solar prominences. In the planetarium, a total of 10 screenings will be held, including 'Aurora,' an aurora video filmed by artist Kwon Oh-cheol in Yellowknife, Canada, and 'To the Moon,' an entertaining video about the moon.
Various hands-on experience booths will also be operated. Programs related to 'light' such as 'Making Binoculars,' 'Afterimage Optical Illusion Pinwheel Making,' and 'Kaleidoscope Making' are prepared.
Additionally, the 'HoloLens XR Experience' allows visitors to explore and observe a virtual Milky Way and virtual solar system by wearing XR equipment, and the 'Press Corps Science Experiment' lets participants experience how scientific phenomena appear to our eyes through scientific experiments.
The programs are divided into on-site participation and on-site first-come, first-served ticket distribution types. Detailed information can be found on the Nowon Astronomy and Space Science Center website.
Moreover, through free admission to the exhibition halls, visitors can see exhibits about the history of the universe, Earth, and life evolution, as well as the expansion of the universe in the 'Big History Hall' and 'Cosmos Hall.'
The Nowon Astronomy and Space Science Center operates day and night observation programs. During the day, the solar observation program 'Eagle-Eagle Sun' runs, and at night, every Friday and Saturday, the 'Starry Night' program offers celestial lectures, planetarium viewings, and celestial observations.
