Book Talk '4.3, Out of the Long Silence' at Pyeongsan Bookstore on the 3rd of Next Month
Heo Hojun Invited for 77th Anniversary
Event to Be Held at Former President Moon Jae-in's Bookstore
The memories of Jeju 4.3 will be revisited at the bookstore where former President Moon Jae-in resides. Pyeongsan Bookstore will host a book talk with journalist Heo Hojun, who documented the 4.3 events, in commemoration of the 77th anniversary.
According to Pyeongsan Bookstore on the 21st, in celebration of the 77th anniversary of Jeju 4.3, a book talk will be held at 7 p.m. on the 3rd of next month at Pyeongsan Bookstore in Yangsan, Gyeongnam. Heo Hojun, a senior reporter at Hankyoreh and a 4.3 researcher, will be invited to the event. During the book talk, Heo will introduce his book "4.3, 19470301-19540921: Out of the Long Silence" and meet with readers. The numbers in the title represent the official start and end dates of the Jeju 4.3 events.
Heo compiled this book based on the oral testimonies of survivors and bereaved families, as well as domestic and international historical records, while preparing a special feature for the 70th anniversary of 4.3 in 2018. The book was published in April 2023, and while book talks have been held in Jeju, this will be the first event outside the Jeju region.
Participants for the book talk will be recruited from 10 a.m. on the 21st until 5 p.m. on the 23rd, and the event is open to members of the Pyeongsan Bookstore book club. Applications can be made through the announcement board on the book club's website.
During his presidency, Moon Jae-in attended the Jeju 4.3 Memorial Ceremony three times in 2018, 2020, and 2021. After leaving office, he visited the Jeju 4.3 Peace Park in 2023, becoming the first former president to do so. At the time of the book's publication, a photo of Moon holding the book was posted on the Pyeongsan Bookstore website.
