The union emphasized, "There is precedent for watching live broadcasts on TV in schools during the impeachment verdict of former President Park Geun-hye in 2017, and the Jeonbuk Office of Education also recommended viewing as part of democracy education," adding, "It is important to show students this decisive moment firsthand once again."
The union further criticized, "The Gwangju Office of Education took no action even during martial law, and while teachers and some principals are participating in Saturday candlelight rallies, the office has not responded at all," urging, "The Gwangju Office of Education must take immediate action."
The Gwangju Teachers' Union reiterated its call for the office to "at the very least, provide guidance to watch the impeachment verdict," and strongly urged the immediate issuance of an official notice to all schools.
