Gyeonggi-do Assigns Detailed Addresses to Over 10,800 Multi-family Houses and More This Year
Gyeonggi Province will assign detailed addresses to more than 10,800 multi-family housing units this year to improve the convenience and safety of residents. A detailed address refers to the ‘building unit, floor, and room’ information displayed after the building number.
Currently, detailed addresses are automatically assigned upon completion for apartments and multiplex houses. However, for multi-family houses such as one-room units that do not have building unit, floor, and room information registered in the building register, detailed addresses cannot be used as official addresses, causing inconveniences such as loss or return of mail. Additionally, in case of fire or emergency situations, it is difficult to locate specific units, sometimes resulting in missing the golden time for rescue operations.
By assigning detailed addresses, Gyeonggi Province expects not only accurate delivery of mail and packages through precise location guidance within buildings but also rapid response to emergencies by providing exact location information during urgent situations.
Through interdepartmental collaboration, Gyeonggi Province plans to prioritize assigning detailed addresses to vulnerable households without detailed addresses among welfare support recipients, where it is difficult to find the actual residence. Detailed addresses can be requested by the owners or tenants of multi-family houses or can be assigned ex officio by the mayor, county governor, or district head for the convenience of using road name addresses.

Kim Yong-jae, Director of the Land Information Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "Expanding the assignment of detailed addresses will prevent mail loss incidents for one-room tenants and enable prompt response in case of fire or emergency patients. Since it greatly affects the safety of residents, we will carry out this initiative thoroughly."
