Shinan County to Hold 'Island Daffodil Festival' from April 4 to 13
Theme: "Spring in Shinan... Filled with Daffodils"
Shinan County in Jeollanam-do (Governor Park Woolyang) announced on the 17th that the 2025 Island Daffodil Festival will be held under the theme "Spring in Shinan... Filled with Daffodils" on Seondo, the nation's largest daffodil habitat and often called the spirit of spring, from April 4 to 13 next month.
The festival was originally scheduled to take place from March 28 to April 6, but due to delayed blooming caused by climate change, the event has been postponed by a week.
Seondo, the venue for the daffodil festival, is preparing to welcome visitors with 10 million golden daffodils spread across 14.5 hectares, and has also arranged a variety of hands-on activities to satisfy all five senses of visitors.
The festival offers a range of enjoyable programs, including walking along the daffodil trekking course, a stamp tour where visitors collect stamps at various attractions within the daffodil garden, and a daffodil mural hunt.
As a unique event, visitors dressed in yellow will receive a 50% discount on admission and will also be given a "1004 Island Shinan Gift Certificate," which can only be used in Shinan County. Admission is free for children, teenagers, and military personnel.
The reason Seondo became known as the island of daffodils began with a woman known as the "Daffodil Lady." The late Mrs. Hyun, who settled on Seondo 30 years ago, gradually filled the area around her home with daffodils, eventually transforming the entire surroundings into a sea of daffodils.
Later, Shinan County designated Seondo as the island of daffodils through the "One Island, One Garden" project, aiming to honor Mrs. Hyun's profound love for daffodils and developed Seondo into a daffodil garden.
A festival official stated, "Even without words, we hope visitors will feel the arrival of spring when they see the daffodils and take home warmth in their hearts as bright as the yellow of the daffodils."
