Taean County to Operate 22 Beaches This Year... Designation Lifted for 5 Including Baeksajang
Bakkae, Anmyeon, Baeksajang, Gureumpo, and Baekripo Beaches
Designation Revoked for Five Beaches in Taean
County Focuses on Sustainable and Efficient Beach Management
Taean County in South Chungcheong Province is set to focus its efforts on enhancing the sustainability and efficient management of its local beaches.
The county announced on the 4th that, during the Taean County Beach Council meeting held at the end of last month, it was finalized to revoke the designation of five beaches?Bakkae, Anmyeon, Baeksajang, Gureumpo, and Baekripo. As a result, a total of 22 beaches will be operated this year.
This measure was taken due to issues arising from the previous number of beaches in the Taean area reaching 27, which led to the dispersal of limited budgets, shortage of support personnel, entrance and exit problems, and restrictions on investment in content and infrastructure.
Last year, the county developed 32 evaluation indicators through a research project to objectively assess beaches in terms of facilities, operational management, environmental management, and services. Based on these, the beaches were graded into three categories: A (intensive support type), B (sustainable management type), and C (adjustment/review type). Five beaches were selected for designation revocation as a result of this assessment.
In addition, to mark the "2025 Year of Visiting Taean," the county plans to discover new tourism content for each beach, develop related products, and establish promotional strategies tailored to each location. The county will also actively communicate with local residents, including members of the Prosperity Association, to create "premium beaches" that satisfy both residents and tourists.
A county official stated, "Revoking the designation of certain beaches is not simply about reducing their number, but about changing the direction of beach tourism development in Taean. We will continue discussions to ensure that Taean, with its beautiful seas, can become the nation's top resort and tourism city."
