Mapo-gu Haetbit Center Provides Nutritional Support to Mothers and Children
Operation of Nutrition Plus Program for Pregnant Women and Infants with Nutritional Risk Factors
Systematic Nutrition Management and Supplementary Food Support to Address Health Issues
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) Sunlight Center operates the ‘Nutrition Plus’ program to help pregnant women and infants achieve balanced nutrition intake and recruits new participants throughout the year.
The eligible participants are pregnant women, postpartum and breastfeeding mothers, and infants up to 6 years old (under 67 months by registration) residing in Mapo-gu with a household income at or below 80% of the median income. Additionally, they must have risk factors such as anemia, underweight, growth retardation, or insufficient nutritional intake.
Those selected for the Nutrition Plus program receive systematic nutrition management through monthly education and counseling at the Sunlight Center.
Along with this, depending on the participant, the program provides supplements such as formula, rice, potatoes, eggs, and seaweed for 6 to a maximum of 12 months to compensate for nutrients that may be lacking in their regular diet.
The Sunlight Center also conducts regular nutritional assessments, including physical measurements and anemia tests, at the beginning, midterm, and end of the program to monitor participants’ nutritional risk factors and changes in nutritional status.
Furthermore, the center offers guidance on food hygiene, management of supplementary foods, and prevention of picky eating habits in infants. It also runs cooking demonstration programs such as making snacks and baby food using supplementary foods to provide useful nutritional knowledge to participants.
For more details about the Nutrition Plus program, inquiries can be made at the Nutrition Counseling Room within the Mapo-gu Sunlight Center.
