Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police Investigate Illegal Food Preparation Activities in Indoor Leisure Facilities Such as PC Bangs
Gyeonggi Province will launch an investigation into illegal activities at PC rooms and other venues selling prepared foods.
The Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police announced on the 30th that, due to an increase in visitors using indoor leisure facilities to escape the winter cold and fine dust, they will conduct a focused investigation from February 3 to 14 targeting PC rooms, screen golf centers, kids cafes, and other places selling prepared foods for illegal activities.
The main investigation items include ▲ violations of business registration ▲ storage of products past their expiration date for sale ▲ violations of food standards and specifications ▲ false or misleading origin labeling, among others.

View original imageUnder the current 'Food Sanitation Act,' if a business operates food service without registration, or violates business operator compliance by manufacturing, processing, cooking, selling, subdividing, transporting, displaying, or storing products or ingredients past their expiration date for sale, they face imprisonment of up to 3 years or a fine of up to 30 million KRW.
Additionally, violations of standards related to manufacturing, processing, usage, cooking, or preservation of food are punishable by imprisonment of up to 5 years or a fine of up to 50 million KRW, and false or misleading origin labeling under the Origin Labeling Act carries penalties of up to 7 years imprisonment or fines up to 100 million KRW.

Gi Do, head of the Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police, stated, "Recently, these facilities have expanded their business to operate as complex leisure spaces by selling prepared foods, coffee, and other food services beyond their main business purpose, prompting this investigation." He added, "We will work to prevent illegal activities within indoor leisure facilities in advance to provide safe and healthy leisure experiences for the residents."
